Ruggero Vimercati Sanseverino is a junior professor and head of studies at the Centre of Islamic Theology at the University of T\u00fcbingen. He also holds the Chair of Hadith and Prophetic Tradition. Professor Vimercati specialises in the transmission of the hadith (the reports of the sayings and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed), classical and modern Islamic prophecy, and the history of Muslim spirituality. Ruggero Vimercati Sanseverino received his doctorate from the University of Aix-Marseille. His thesis ‘Fes and sanctity’ is devoted to the history of holiness in the city of Fez and was published in 2014. His recent research focuses on the link between the transmission of the hadith and prophetology according to a famous treatise of the twelfth century and is particularly interested in the relationship between the believer and the Prophet Muhammad in Sunni Islam. He is involved in the preparation of several networks and research groups, including an interdisciplinary research group on the experience of divergence in the theological discourses of the three monotheistic religions (T\u00fcbingen), a network of researchers concerning the functions and typologies of places sacred in Islam (Edinburgh) and a Franco-German research group on the veneration of the Prophet Muhammad (ANR-DFG).<\/p>\n
